Here are 6 Types of Acne You Need to Know

Clean and healthy skin is every woman’s dream. However, the skin is not always okay. Acne can appear when pores are clogged with dead skin cells, sebum, and bacteria. Propionibacterium acnes is a type of acne-causing bacteria that lives on the skin. If these bacteria infect clogged pores, they can form pimples.

Acne has many types. There are two types of acne, namely non-inflammatory or inflammatory acne that causes swelling. Here are the types of acne you need to know.

1. Non-Inflammatory Acne

Non-inflammatory acne or better known as blackheads is divided into two types, namely blackheads and whiteheads. This type of acne does not cause swelling and is relatively easy to treat. Non-inflammatory acne usually responds well to salicylic acid.mWell, here are the differences between blackheads and whiteheads:

  1. Blackheads occur when pores become clogged with a combination of sebum and dead skin cells. The top of the pore remains open, even though the rest is clogged. This results in the characteristic black color that is visible on the surface.
  2. Whiteheads can form when pores become clogged with sebum and dead skin cells. Unlike blackheads, the top of the pore stays closed. These blackheads look like small bumps protruding from the skin.

2. Inflammatory acne

Inflammatory pimples are characterized by red, swollen bumps. Apart from blockage of sebum and dead skin cells, bacteria are the main culprit that causes inflammation. The bacteria can cause acne spots that are painful and difficult to remove. In contrast to non-inflammatory acne, inflamed acne is more effective when treated with benzoyl peroxide.

Benzoyl peroxide works to help reduce swelling and get rid of bacteria in the skin. Not only that, but benzoyl peroxide can also remove excess sebum. Well, here are the types of inflammatory acne you need to know:

  • Papules. The appearance of pimple papules occurs when the walls around the pores are damaged due to severe inflammation. This condition then results in hard, clogged pores but soft to the touch. The skin around the pores is usually pink.
  • Pustules form when the walls around a pore break. Unlike papules, pustules are filled with pus. These bumps come out of the skin and are usually red in color and have a yellow or white head on them.
  • Nodules occur when pores become swollen and irritated. Unlike pustules and papules, nodules are usually deeper under the skin. Nodules occur so deep in the skin that they need to be treated by a doctor to remove them.
  • Cysts can develop when a pore is blocked by a combination of bacteria, sebum, and dead skin cells. This type occurs further within the skin and further beneath the surface than nodules. These large red or white bumps are painful to the touch. Cysts are the largest form of acne and their formation causes severe infection.

Make it a habit to routinely clean your face every day to prevent acne. If you have pimples, avoid touching or popping them as doing so can exacerbate any acne you have. Read More !
